Synopsis
Being Black in Germany as Afro-German actor and Life in Germany for actors are different reality. Lena Whooo is an actor, model, poet, and activist based in Berlin and for years, her natural locked hair has been treated as a liability in Germany's film and fashion industries. In this documentary, she opens up about being told by her own agent that her hair "looks too rebellious for roles here in Germany," losing jobs over her appearance, and the moment she had to choose between her identity and her career.
Director's Statement
Lena speaks candidly about navigating the industry as an Afro-German, neurodivergent woman, switching agents after being blamed for her own discrimination, and why she believes Berlin's "diversity" culture is often more performative than real. She's also part of the BIPOC Alliance, working alongside marginalized filmmakers to build spaces during the Berlinale where their stories are told on their own terms.
